Ballast Control System
A ballast tank is a compartment within a boat, ship or other floating structure that holds water, which is
used as ballast to provide stability for a vessel. Using water in a tank allows for easier adjustment of
weight than stone or iron ballast as was used in older vessels. It also allows for ballast to be pumped out
to temporarily reduce the draft of the vessel when required to enter shallower water.
Characteristics of the Ballast
Control System:
x
x
x PLC controlled
x Direct pump and valve control
x Fully automated ballast management
x Fully customizable to fulfil
customer specifications
x Clear ‘animated’ overview of pumps, valves and fluid-levels
x Compatible with tank sounding systems
x Integrated with Eekels main switchboard
x Integrated with Eekels alarm system
x Status display
and control via touch screen
The main function of the BCS is to manage the distribution of fluids (ballast) across several tanks to optimize weight distribution according to different circumstances. The system continuously monitors the actual fluid levels in the different tanks.
The BCS can automatically manage the ballast distribution and can be monitored using colour touch screen displays. These display can also be used to alter the settings of the system and input manual commands.
The BCS can
be
fully integrated with the Eekels alarm system.
